1st XI v Birkenhead School - Good Results!!
Well done to all of the players who played in the 1st and 2ndXI games at Birkenhead School. The two performances ensured that we came away with pleasing results!! A hard forght battle against the 1st XI ended in a 0-0 draw with the killer instinct infront of goal being the key. The main focus and aim oif this squad must be their basic skills and their ability to pass to each other and to create space for each other.
The second point is how much they want the ball and more importantly the game itself. 'Do you want it more than your opposite number?'
All that being said the boys played well against a young yet well drilled Birkenhead 2nd XI and showed their fighting skills to end up 3-1 winners. Assisted by the umpire in the first game Scott, Taylor, Cooper and Millington all finished with aplomb. Well Done Boys

Yr 9 v St Anselms
This game is another match under the quickly improveing Year 9 team. There are lots of signs that these boys have improved and are beginning to understand how to lay the game. A good early chance hat fell to debutant Sean Farrington was unlucky saved by the St Anselms goalkeeper who had played for the U16's. We kept making lots of short passes and created a few chances and gained some short corners.
In the second half we had a bizarre 10 minute period in which the St Anselms team scored three goals.
If the boys can start playing for local hockey clubs like Neston, Bebinton and Oxton then we could really see improvements in their individual skills.
Keep things up boys!!

St Anselms 3 v 0 Wirral
1st XI v Kings Macclesfield
This was a strange old game the Wirral team approached the game with a lax attitude and this showed as the performance was just not there! The basic skills were poor and we struggled to string passes together and create chances.

Yr 9 House Hockey Tournament
On a fairly cold wet afternoon, there was a feast of Hockey took place at the Bebington Oval. The four houses of Barber, Dodds, Hodgson and Lever were well represented and the four goalkeepers of Jonathan Dearden-Williams, Adam Dolman, Andrew Rich and Tom Smith all got kitted up in the rain. This was going to be fun!!The matches started with two matches taking place on half of a pitch.
Barber 1 v 2 Dodds
Woods Tom, Farrington, Sean and Dutton, Max
Hodgson 0 v 0 Lever
A good start to the matches with plenty of chances in both games and good goalkeeping. These boys have started to show skills and are working well as a team. The commitment is amazing.

Well done to Harry Bush, Matthew Walker and Kieran Riddiough for their selection for the Wirral U15s. This is a credit to these boys who play for local clubs and have developed into talented players over the last year or so. We wish them every success when representing their county.

Result 2-1 (L) Match Report to follow
21st Nov U16 v Calday Grange
This is likely to be a highly competitive game against Calday. Lets make sure we get our revenge boys after our draw earlier in the season. Play positive attacking hockey boys!!
Result - 1-0 (L) A very close competitive game in which Wirral has plenty of chances just failing to cover them lead to a sucker punch as Calday scored the only goal.

Basic Hockey Yrs 7/8/9
Basic Hockey for all boys who would like to start playing hockey and to develop their basic skills should meet in the PE changing rooms by the gym at 3.45 on Fridays. The Hockey runs until 4.45 at school.
Wirral v Neston 1st XI
The 1st XI Wirral cup game was a highly competitive encounter that was very evenly matched for large parts of the game. Both Wirral and Neston had good early chances, but it was Wirral were looked more likely to score. Good performances by Brad Cook, Chris Drew and solid defending by Peter Van Berkum and Will Oldham ensured the score was a stalemate until the last minute of the first half. A mistake in the Wirral midfield left a Neston midfielder to power into the dee only to be upended by Chris Scott. CCC WHISTLED PENALTY STROKE!! 1-0 half time.
To Wirrals annoyance the Neston boys who play in the same side together week in week out took ther chances in the second half and with the Wirral boys not taking their own good chances including one on ones with the keeper the score was probably fair. This really disappointing as the Caldy result has affected their progress to the final that i feel they deserve.

Yr 10 House Matches Results
On a terrible evening weather wise, an entertaining evening of Hockey took place at the Bebington Oval. The four houses of Barber, Dodds, Hodgson and Lever were well represented and the four goalkeepers of David Johnstone, Joe Burchill, Jamie Baxter and Alex Smith all got kitted up in the rain. The matches started with two matches taking place on half of a pitch.
Barber 1 v 2 Dodds
Evans Jack, Elias James (2)
Hodgson 0 v 0 Lever
A good start to the matches with plenty of chances in both games and good goalkeeping. These boys have massively improved!!
Barber 0 v 3 Lever
Watkins Luke, Tidy Mark, Hughes Rob.
Hodgson 2 v 1 Dodds
Spink Andy (2) Dutton Max
Possibly game of the night was the Hodgson v Dodds game with good attacking play from both sideds and good attacks from Spink and Bush especially for Dodds. Well Done!
Barber 2 v Hodgson 3
Evans Jack (2) Gilbert Jack, Spink Andy (2)
Lever 1 v 0 Dodds
Walker Matthew
All these results meant that on goal differance Lever were the winners from Hodgson both teams winning 2 and drawing against each other. Dodds were 3rd and Barber 4th. A special note to goalscorers Andy Spink (4) and Jack Evans (3). Well Done boys.

Wirral v Sandbach 1st/2nd XI
After a slightly disrupted start and the Wirral lads taking to the pitch with odd shirts we started brightly. Early attacks down the right were productive with Jarmay and Cook linking well. This led to the opening goal with good link play down the right and with a finish from close range by Cooie. Good play throughout the first half led to a few chances that were not converted. We withheld some pessure on the goal at the end of the first half, but the score remained 1-0.
The 2nd half started brightly and the team used quick attacks down both flanks with Taylor and Graves this allowed Drew and Cook to support Harries. Another good close finish from Harries and further strikes from Steadman and Graves took us to 4-0. A solid defensive performance was achieved and a well deserved clean sheet.

Good results. Many things to work on!
Wirral 1st XI v St Anselms (1-1) Taylor.
A highly competitive game as usual against our local rivals, but not the best hockey at time. There were too many times when the ball was given away by the Wirral side who missed at times the presence of Graeme Williams in defence. When we did pass the ball we looked effective and created chances but these were few and far between. A better second half provailed but we must learnt to play with a better approach and tempo to ensure we can dominate sides.
Wirral 2nd XI v St Anselms (1-0) Harries
A good open game with plenty of space and better passing from the second team. With good performances by many team members when we started to pass the ball down the right hand side we started to create opportunities and look dangerous. Good linkage play between Liu, Jarmay, Walton and Kelly lead to the only goal finished with aplomb by Marc Harries.

U14 v St Anselms (Oval)
Wirral 0 - 3 St Anselms
A good competitive game in which the year 9 team picked up new skills and game experience! A good start to the game with a Wirral side with many changes and boys making their school debuts. The boys had to ensure that they made sure they passed the ball wide and down the right and left sides. This was another really encouraging performance by the boys and with 19 boys playing a part in the game there is experience to be gained.

What a win!! This is what we are all about. Quick passing! Attacking play! Calm Finishing and Solid Defending!!

After some soul-searching amongst the 1stXI Hockey Squad, the response was superb to produce the best performance and result of the season. Playing fluent, composed and firey hockey all players made excellent contributions. Excellent approach play and profound defending provided the platform for goals from Graves, Drew, Taylor and Steadman. Well Done everyone!!

Wirral 0 - 0 Neston
This was the 2nd game of the U14 teams career and what an excellent defensive performance. The boys ensured that they worked well together throughout the game. Short passing, good defending and critical saves by David Johnstone was a solid base throughout the game.
There were good performances by all boys in particular from Max Eastwood, Peter Clegg, Johnny Williams and Mike Bowen. Well done to all boys as the first result is the most important! We just need to begin to work on attacking and creating chances.

1st XI v Neston
The first competitive game of the season saw the highly motivated Wirral team go to Neston with a positive attitude. The preperation for the game had been good and when Wirral took the lead from a short corner on ten minutes things looked good!!
But five minutes of madness from the Wirral team cost the boys the game with errors coming from all over the pitch culminating in a 4-1 scoreline to Neston at half time. After a promosing start this was disappointing. A much better and controlled approach came in the second half and this lead to a variety of chances and a goal from a short corner from Harries brought the score back to 4-2. Neston scored with the last touch of the game.
Final Score 5-2
